Forest 4 Trees is a project of Willem Brooke-deBock, a writer who was never a writer, and always a writer.
After a lifetime of imaging he wanted to be a writer, it has only been within the last five years that he finished some creative pieces and he realized that he enjoyed the process of writing. This is exactly why his work is hard to find!
But why a zine? Is it because he missed out on the golden age of zines in the 90’s? Not a bad hypothesis, but not really. It is more likely that it is because he wants to write without the hassle of trying to find a publisher. Or without having to hustle submissions to little magazines or agents. More than anything, he can’t stand the idea of chasing after (and bowing to) the gods of the algorithms.
He does not want to try to win those games.
He wants to make things, share things, and be part of a group of writers and readers who feel similarly. Will Forest 4 Trees always just be a platform for his writing? He hopes not. He would like F4T to have multiple contributors. It would be interesting and fun.
But one step at a time.
